Out of the ashes

I had a thought the other night as I was sitting outside in my back yard, starting at the flames in our fire pit, that we are currently watching the old world/paradigm burn. When we all come out on the other side of this Covid-19 pandemic, and begin to rebuild our world, what systems are no longer serving us that we don't need to fight to keep them going? What kind of world do we want to create out of the ashes of the old? I believe if we are having to fight to try to keep something going, like our economy, then that is a clear sign that we need to find a different way of doing things.

We have been watching the old ways of being crumble away for quite some time. The systems are broken and there has been a lot of hurt inflicted on our planet. What we are currently experiencing is awful and tragic in so many ways and yet there is so much beauty coming out of this. Humanity at its worst and best all at the same time. In my own personal life, what my family has experienced with job layoffs and no school due to States of Emergency, and Stay at Home, self quarantine, isolation, would under ordinary circumstances be incredibly stressful. Now I'm not going to lie and say it's not scary, but knowing that this is global and we are not the only ones experiencing this, has given us the strength to step back and focus on that which is right in front of us.

Have you noticed? The planet is healing! Mama Gaia has had enough and has sent us all to our rooms to think about what we have done, and while we are quarantined, she is cleaning up a lot of the messes that we have made. While our planet heals, and our doctors try to slow the spread of this disease, those of us in quarantine get to go inward, create art, sing, write, enjoy our immediate families (if we are lucky enough to be quarantined with family), our pets (if we have them), and nature (as she heals!) What a gift!

At this point in our collective evolution, we have evolved into a global community with the internet, cell phone, and other technologies that enable us to interact and collaborate with people all over the world, and while we are in isolation, we are more connected than ever. We are ALL in this together and we all have an opportunity to make better choices here. Moving forward can we co create a world that works for ALL and not just some? Yes we absolutely can! It has become blatantly obvious that there is more than enough to go around if we share our resources instead of hoarding and accumulating. Capitalism is dead and there is no reason to try to resurrect it.

One of the things I'm seeing that is surprisingly working, is the schools adapting to an online curriculum. At first I was unsure how this would play out, but the initial roll out for our county this week has, for us at least, been relatively smooth, and I'm seeing the pluses with this, no brick and mortar schools to be shot up during this transition and plenty of opportunities for our children to really exel at what they are best at by working at their own pace at home with family.

Yeah, I know I'm all over the place on this one today, but I really want to focus on the positives of our current collective situation. We are seeing what is really important, health care, living wage for the people who typically earn minimum wage or work for tips only, teachers, (OH MY GODDESS I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT FOR OUR KIDS TEACHERS!!!) time with family, and self care.

When we come out on the other side of this, I don't want to return to the way things were. I want us to take the best of humanity and move forward with grace, compassion, and a renewed commitment to  not make the same mistakes again. Who is with me?
